Bentonite clay has been used for thousands of years as an effective way to aid in body detoxification.  Derived from volcanic ash that requires no processing, bentonite clay has a unique ability to produce a strong negative electromagnetic charge when it comes into contact with liquid.  Bentonite clay has been used for thousands of years as a popular and cost-effective method to support the body through cleansing and detoxification.

How does Bentonite Clay Work?

Bentonite clay has the powerful ability to mop up toxins and remove them from the body, such as heavy metals, impurities, chemicals, and parasites.

It is known that when animals in the wild become injured or ingest something poisonous will seek out clay and roll in it to heal a wound, or drink it to get rid of the ingested poison.  This animal instinct is a good indication of the true effectiveness of the natural healing abilities of bentonite clay.

5 Ways to Body Detox with Bentonite Clay

INTERNALLY – mop up toxins within the body

1.   DRINK IT!

Internal use of bentonite clay can be very beneficial during cleanse and detox protocols because it helps mop up the toxins as they are being released from tissues into the bloodstream and helps to carry them out of the body rather than allowing toxins to recirculate which can cause symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, nausea.  Some detox and cleanse protocols that may benefit from including the use of bentonite clay include juice/water fasting, liver flushing, colon cleansing, gut healing, parasite cleansing and alkaline cleansing.

Ingredients – 1 teaspoon Bentonite Clay, and 1 glass of filtered water

Method – Mix clay and water together and stir well.  Let sit for 10-15 minutes which allows the clay to activate, then drink the liquid (the sediment can be left as it’s the liquid that carries the electromagnetic charge that makes the magic happen!).

Drink once or twice daily 2 hours either side of food or medications.

Warning – do not mix clay with a metal spoon, as the clay may absorb metals into the liquid.  Be sure to use wood, glass or ceramic for mixing or storing.

EXTERNALLY – draw toxins out via the skin

The benefits of a bentonite face mask include; unclogging pores, removes toxins and impurities via the skin, improves skin tone, softens skin, removes dead skin cells (exfoliates), and reduces the appearance of scars.

Ingredients – 1 teaspoon Bentonite Clay, 1-2 teaspoons water, and 1-2 drops of Frankincense essential oil (for added skin rejuvenation benefits).

Method – Mix ingredients together with a wooden spoon and spread evenly over face and leave for 20 minutes.  Remove with warm water.  Use face mask once a week.

A clay bath is a gentle detox because it absorbs the toxins instead of forcing them out.  Other benefits from a detox bath can include headache relief, stress relief, relaxation, sleep promotion and better concentration.

Ingredients – 1 cup Bentonite Clay, 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup Epsom salts, 1/2 cup no aluminium sodium bicarbonate (Detox Bath Blend), 3-6 drops of essential oils such as rosemary, clove, frankincense.

Method – Add all ingredients to a bath with a temperature as warm as you can tolerate.  Soak for 20-30 minutes allowing the ingredients in the bath to draw toxins out via the skin.

For a more direct method, mix the clay with water and rub it over your body before getting into the bath.  This way the clay is directly on the skin and will be more effective at drawing out toxins.  Allow the clay to wash off while continuing to soak in the bath for 20-30 minutes.

Commercial toothpaste should be avoided as they contain triclosan, fluoride, diethanolamine and other harmful toxins that act as hormone disruptors within the body.  Bentonite clay is natural and great for promoting gum health.

Make your own natural toothpaste with this recipe

Ingredients – 1 ½ tablespoons Bentonite Clay, 3 tablespoons filtered water, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 tablespoon food grade sodium bicarbonate.  Flavour the toothpaste with your favourite flavour of essential oils such as peppermint, spearmint or orange.

Method – Mix together bentonite clay and water to form a paste.  Be sure to use a wooden spoon.  Add all remaining ingredients and mix well.  Store toothpaste in a glass or plastic container.

An armpit cleanse is an effective way to draw chemicals out of the skin and tissues an area that has a lot of lymph nodes.  This can be very helpful to speed up the process of adjusting to natural deodorant after using commercial deodorants that contain many harmful chemicals and heavy metals.

Ingredients – 1 tablespoon Bentonite Clay, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar and 1-2 teaspoons water.

Method – Mix all ingredients in a glass bowl (remember not to use metal) and make a paste with the consistency of a moisturiser.  Spread the mixture evenly over the armpits and leave for 10-20 minutes.  Wash off in the shower or with warm water.  Repeat once a week.

Regular armpit cleanses can help to reduce armpit odour and improve lymphatic function, as well as reduce the occurrence of viruses and reduce the risk of breast cancer.  The commercial deodorants contain many chemicals that can affect hormones and could be linked to cancer such as triclosan, parabens, aluminium, formaldehydes, and phthalates.

Bentonite clay is a wonderful addition to your natural medicine cabinet with many uses and is a very beneficial aid in removing toxins, preventing disease and illness and promoting good health and wellbeing.
